This was my fifth week of iXchange. Ps John had it on his heart that all of the iXchangers had to go to the farm, my farm, my parents’ farm, and help my dad bring in the biggest apple harvest that we’ve ever had on the farm, and that we’ve ever had on the farm.
And we all went in different slots. When it came to my week, I was not really sure what to expect, because obviously I was there for more than 16 years of my life five weeks beforehand, and I was the son in the house that walked in everything and all the son privileges that a son would have. And all of a sudden I’m out of that, and I’m in Witbank, and I’m under other authority, and now I had to go back and work, and I had to go back and go to the farm, work on the farm, but not as a son, but under the authority of another iXchanger facilitating the whole thing.

The Lord really dealt with my heart the week beforehand that I had to get used to the fact that obviously I’m not going to walk in the level of sonship and that it’s going to be different than all the other iXchangers, but I have to make a conscious decision to not take my privileges in the house or use the privileges in my house to my comfort, and actually to get out of my comfort zone and submit myself to the authority that’s been placed over me because that is what I’ve been asked to do. I was going there to serve, not jol.

I wasn’t asked to go there and be a son, I was asked to go help bring in the harvest.
And yeah, so when I got there I had a conversation with the facilitators, and I told them exactly what I just said, that I know that this is going to be interesting and I know that our interactions are going to be different than what they had with the other iXchangers and even with my siblings. I told them that I choose to submit, and I’m actually making a conscious decision to submit under your authority and not just assume that I know everything.

And that really just blessed the relationship so much because we just flowed in such a productive way. And there was no strife, there was no conflict, no tense situations. There was just unity, and through that unity, through understanding each other, there was productivity and we all knew what we meant, and we all had the same goal, and that was to help my dad and bring in the harvest the best we could and however my dad needed it to be done.

And that was just so cool for me to realize that I don’t have to doubt that I have to submit to authority because the safest place to be is to be under authority, and it’s such a productive place to be in.
And yeah, it was an amazing experience for me.

The other thing that had an impact on me was about how the Lord has actually given me confidence in where I am at the moment and that I am really exactly where I need to be.
I had some conversations with one of my family members on the farm before I came to Witbank, and they basically told me that I can enjoy my year or two in Witbank, but that I’ll see you here on the farm after that. They basically gave me a year or two (a gap year), and then after that I have to go back. And obviously, they don’t have that much say in my life, but that was interesting because it was directly going against what iXchange actually means for me. Because iXchange for me is the place where God has called me in this time, and I have no plan to go anywhere else without God telling me to go there. Ps Sharon has also said on multiple occasions that iXchange is not a “Gap Year”; it is a place where people come to seek God, and in my own words it is not a place where people come to just have fun, but it is a place where I chose to come to grow; to grow in God; in relationships and follow His plan for my life. So this family member was going against my choice for God. I do think it was obviously without him knowing and having the revelation and actually trying to look out for me. But it was actually something for me to deal with, to not follow culture but follow God.

And when I was on the farm that week I actually had a conversation with that specific family member. I actually had this amazing confidence that the Lord gave me. The conversation we had had nothing to do with this point, but I didn’t have that struggle in me anymore. When I talked to him I just knew that I am so in the right place and I’m so where I need to be, that yes, I enjoy the farm and yes, I love the farm, but this is where I need to be because this is the part of the journey where I have to be in Witbank and seek Him first in this way.
And if there’s a time and a place for Witbank, then this is the place where I need to be to get what I need at this part of my life.

And I’m actually just so grateful for what the Lord gave to me in peace, and the surety that it’s not about a geographical location, it’s about being with Him when, where, and with who because He said so.

So yeah, that’s my highlights.
